From family photos to unicorn parties to cowboy picnics Palmetto Stables is more than just a riding center. Nestled on 25 acres in the growing city of North Augusta, the small farm at Palmetto Stables is big on family-friendly atmosphere. Established in 1992, the farm’s primary focus is horseback riding lessons for children and horse boarding, but as business grew so did the list of animal residents which now include goats, chickens, turkeys, ducks and some barn cats.
Palmetto Stables offers a variety of animal and farm activities such as pony rides (September through December), field trips, Horsemanship summer camps and On the Farm Camps available during winter and spring breaks that help children feed and care for farm animals and discover the value in gardening. For horseback riding, the basic fundamentals of safe and proper riding are taught, including horsemanship. They cater to riders aged 6 to 18 with private and group lessons according to the rider’s experience and progression.
The newly renovated farmhouse-style event area is available for rent by the hour for small gatherings and parties. Two types of party décor according to themes is offered: whimsical or rustic. The whimsical theme includes shabby chic décor with lots of soft color palettes and flowers, perfect for tiny princesses. The rustic theme follows a western rodeo-style design for the cowboy/girl in us all. Tableware and cutlery can be included in the pricing along with horse or pony rides for guests.
One of the most interesting activities on the farm is the horse photo sessions/shoots. They provide 20-minute sessions at $75 or one-hour sessions at $125. Handlers will supervise the shoot along with the photographer and there are posing restrictions based on weight, size and comfort level of the participant(s). The protection and comfort of the horses is also important and will be advised and regulated by the horse handlers. What a neat idea for a fall family shot, or a great Christmas card photo!
