Waiting It Out

Evan has picked up his first "daycare cold" after only being there a couple of weeks. Everyone warned us that he'll be much more prone to pick up bugs in that environment. The doctor says there's nothing he can do for him right now, but for us to keep him upright and put him in a bathroom full of steam every so often. I've never felt so helpless in all of my life. When I get sick, there's all sorts of remedies that I can use to feel better, but not so for a 3 month old.

Amy hates using what I call the "snot bulb" to drain the junk out of his nose. You know what I'm talking about...that blue bulb with the long tip that you squeeze and stick in his nose to try to pull out snot. She doesn't like it because he gets fussy after you use it. He's not as fussy when I use it because I wait for the right moment when he's smiling and happy and then I make my move. When I do it, he smiles, almost as if he likes having that thing rammed up his nose. I think it tickles him.

We feel so sorry for this congested, coughing little boy, but he doesn't seem to be fazed by it. He is just as happy and mellow as ever. I wish I knew his secret! I think that our baby's first cold is hurting us more than it's hurting him. In the meantime, we'll just wait out that 10-14 day window for him to get better.
