Missing You...

Our favorite daughter has been on a class trip to Washington, D.C., this week and I’m not the only one who has been missing her.

Christie Joe, our new Calico cat, had only been a member of the family for a week when it was time for the much-anticipated trip.

Daughter had been waiting for the trip all year, so she was very excited to leave…but also not quite ready to leave her new pet. Christie Joe sleeps with her—literally. I mean right under the covers and all.

I gave in to daughter’s desire to have a pet of her own because 1) she’s old enough to be fairly responsible in the pet’s care and 2) I just felt like if the child thinks she needs something to love, then she does.

There were definitely parental perks that came with having Christie Joe the first week. Daughter’s room was kept much tidier than usual, which was part of the agreement. The second benefit, one super happy teenage daughter.

The morning of daughter’s departure, Christie Joe seemed pretty normal. But by the afternoon miss kitty was getting a bit anxious about the absence of her favorite human. She cried and scratched at the door to daughter’s room…practically all night.

Another change occurred. Our once docile kitty was suddenly into everything. (I’m not sure whether this is directly related to daughter’s absence or the fact that Christie Joe came to us with a bit of a cold, which turned into a sinus infection. Her antibiotics were probably kicking in by the day of daughter’s departure.)

We’ve tried to love Christie Joe through her week of separation anxiety. Today daughter returns and I’m definitely not the only one who will be happy to see her.
