Everybody’s thinking “green” because of St. Patrick’s Day. Green has always been my favorite color – especially emerald green. I once heard that for those people who favor the color green, they will be rich one day. I surely hope that becomes true in my case!
But, as a Professional Organizer, I tend to think of other “green” topics. As I help people rid their lives of clutter, the “green” in the forefront of my mind is the one that helps us recycle old items and helps preserve our beautiful earth.
Here are a few tips to help you stay in the “green” frame of mind – this month and all year long:
• When you finish reading a magazine, put it in the trunk of your car and the next time you find yourself near a doctor’s office, dentist’s office, or hair salon, drop it off so that others can read it, too. Be sure to remove your name and address from the front cover first. • Visit www.freecycle.com to learn how to exchange items you no longer want with other people in your community instead of filling our landfills with more stuff. You can also get stuff from people in our area on that website. • Change the air filters for your heating and air conditioning units regularly to decrease your house’s Carbon-Dioxide output. • Get coffee from Starbucks or other coffee-house on a regular basis? Take your own mug and save a paper cup. • Use the plastic bags you bring groceries home in for trash bags before throwing them out.
